The XDAETA project utilizes a fusion of science themes and immersive technology to create a unique immersive musical interactive virtual environment. The project utilizes the exploration of cosmic phenomena to seamlessly integrate the fields of art, technology and cosmic philosophy. The main goal is to construct an interactive immersive music space that facilitates a world-building experience through an advanced virtual reality (VR) interface.
Drawing inspiration from the complex narratives of science fiction and the transformative potential of immersive digital technologies, XDEATA is designed to appeal to a discerning audience that appreciates the complexity of speculative fiction and the depth of interactive experiences. The project goes beyond traditional passive consumption by inviting users to actively participate and influence the unfolding narrative.
From a technical perspective, XDAETA employs VR to create a deeply immersive user environment, enabling exploration and interaction within multiple layers of virtual space. The technical framework is further enriched by the integration of Maxmsp-generated music that dynamically responds to user interactions to create responsive and evolving auditory landscapes. The combination of VR and interactive audio design not only provides an engaging entertainment experience for the target audiences, it also allows them to explore and interact with the project's content and the audience's content.
The project is presented to the audience in the form of a virtual reality space with a spectacular space scene. Two hovering meteorite blocks are positioned in a prominent position on the screen, and the user can enter the space and explore on their own using the controller. The floating meteorite will then float into the players' hands if they press the grab button on the controller (Figure 4). Players can also rotate or throw the meteorite to create and interact with the music, at a time the coordinates of the meteorite's position (x, y, z) are entered into MaxMSP, and real-time interaction with the music is realized through the change of position coordinates. This real-time interaction, combined with the VR scene, can greatly enhance the immersion of the audience during the experience. The whole project is more like an instrument built based on the digital world, allowing the audience to experience the fun of playing music without even needing a musical foundation. In addition to the main interaction of playing, the audience can also use the handle to walk in the built scene and feel the space from different perspectives. This audio-visual combination of music and virtual space experience will bring people a more novel sensory experience.
